PhD Overview

The aim of my research is the exploration of circular methods to optimize aquaponics in Côte d’Ivoire. We expected to significantly reduce the cost of fish feed by valorizing residual organic matter from households through the rearing of black soldiers fly larvaes for feeding tilapia in aquaponics. Indeed, fish farming in Côte d’Ivoire is subject of abandonment, due to high cost of fish feed, which is subject to vagaries of imports, rudimentary practices and lack of high-level support. In addition, water wastage are exacerbating the water deficit caused by climate change. Optimising aquaponics by circular methods, using easily accessible and inexpensive feed and saving 90% water, offers hope for the revitalization of fish farming and agriculture in Côte d’Ivoire.

About Me

I am Céline Nobah Kacou-Wodje, a lecturer from teachers training school of Abidjan, in Côte d’Ivoire, and a women in STEM from ninety-three (93) developing countries to be awarded by Schlumberger Foundation, since March Twenty twenty four (2024). I pursue researches on the exploration of circular methods to optimize aquaponics in Côte d’Ivoire at Institute of Evolutionary Sciences of Montpellier University in France. On my return to country, I will set up a capacity-building plan in valorisation of aquaculture or aquaponics effluents for players in the fish farming sector. As I am the president of women researcher’s association of Côte d’Ivoire, I am trying to have a positive impact on my community, by organizing conferences and mentoring female students for science attractiveness. I encourage women from Côte d’Ivoire to apply for the Fellowship like me.
